RBC takes VetiVa back to school with a 7-1 blowout
An important game for VetiVa to gain some breathing room on the rest of the teams as RBC had already secured their playoff spot last week.
The game started with great intent but a lot of sloppy plays by VetiVa meant RBC had a lot of chances, but it took almost 10 minutes before RBC broke thru after a Face off win a quick shot by Gary Lawrence found the short side for the first goal.
Two minutes later after a Scramble the puck slipped out and Jasper Chow, pinching in from the point, poked it in. 2-0 after 1st period.
More of the same in the second. Ryan Lee fires a shot from the point that eludes a screened Nick Sellars. And David Finifter (RBC LPP) also got in the act to make it 4-0 to close the 2nd.
Down 4-0 VetiVa tried to press for a comeback, but it wasn’t to be. It didn’t take long for RBC to continue their romp in the 3rd period. Just 3 minutes in, Bonnie Lui scored her 2nd of the game off a Leon Mo pass to make it 5-0. A minute later, another 2 on 1 for RBC after Matt Ng chips it out past the D and passes across to Jackie Chan who's shot missed, but the shot bounced off the back boards for Matt who stopped in front of the net to finish making it 6-0. The only thing left was whether VetiVa could spoil Phillips’ shutout bid, and just 4 minutes later as RBC's defense continued to score more goals, Paul Chai was able to chip a puck out to a streaking Stephen Levac for a breakaway which he was able to convert. The only bright spot for VetiVa on the night. In fact, they were so eager for this game to end that Jasper Chow scored his second of the night with a second left as VetiVa shut down before the final whistle.
Grant Phillips (RBC) faced 25 shots, while Nicholas Sellars (VetiVa) faced 29 shots.
Three Stars of the game:

2. Jasper Chow (RBC Lions)

AsiaXpat puts pressure on Young Guns, but they dig deep and come back for the win
Top seed Young Guns against AsiaXpat hoping to get some points to stay in the playoff race. Xpat is the only team with the lowest GF/GA difference of the bottom 4 teams. Xpat was also welcoming back for Gavino Ng who was out for the past 7 games with an upper-body injury.
However, it didn’t start well for Xpats. Just a minute in, Yaann Yuen makes a nice pass to Andre on a 2-on-1. Martin Jim makes a great initial save but Yaann puts in the rebound 1- 0. 2 minutes later that combination strikes again, this time Andre finishing the rebound to make it 2-0. In reply, Xpat’s David Finifter puts it on net and gets By Cameron Chiu to make 2-1. But on the next faceoff, Luca Loi-Faita provides an instant response as he skates it in the slot and lasers it off the post and in to regain the 2-goal lead. A couple minutes later, it was Andre again with a shot going in 1 on 1, the puck Lodges in the 5-hole and squeaks in over the line. 4-1. Young guns were looking to run away with this one until Xpat’s Howard Chin one times a sweet pass from Finifter on the left side to claw it back to 4-2 after the first period.
Not sure what Xpat GM Allan Yee did to spark the team, but they came out flying in the 2nd. First Theo Wong cycles around the net for a wraparound goal, followed by Justin Wong making moves off the right boards, dekes by everyone and roofs it short side top corner to tie it at 4. Then Finifter on the side to put home a rebound after an Allan Yee point shot bounced to the left. 5-4 Xpat for their first lead of the night. Towards the end Young Guns Yuen took a shot from left wing and Fabrizio Faita puts in the Rebound to tie it at 5 to end the 2nd. We had a new game.
The 3rd period was much tighter until midway, Yuen had a nice breakaway from the blue line as she deked forehand backhand and into the net to give Young Guns the lead back and soon after, Andre Chan goes also gets a breakaway after a great pass from Izzac Chan and puts it top corner glove side for the hatty and a 7-5 lead just as they killed off an Xpat powerplay. AsiaXpat couldn’t recover from the quick 2 goal effort and goes down to a resilient Young Guns team.
Martin Jim (AsiaXpat) faced 34 shots against, while Cameron Chiu (Young Guns) received 21 shots.
Three Stars of the game:
1. Yaann Yuen (Young Guns)
2. Andre Chan (Young Guns)
3. Martin Jim (AsiaXpat)
JOG keeps playoff hopes alive with in over Unicorns
This was a critical game between JOG and Unicorns. A win by Unicorns could kill JOGs hopes for the playoffs, while a loss keeps everyone in the race.
It started well for JOG as Yaann Yuen (JOG LPP) dekes past the defense, then chips it far side on Arthur Chan, 1-0 JOG. Midway in the period, Alvin Sham breaks past 2 defensemen and fires one past Martin Jim (JOG LPP) to tie it at 1. A few minutes later, a mad scramble in front of the JOG net, after Tracy Wong puts in front, finds Chris Lam in the right spot at the right time, as he slots it in to take the lead for Unicorns. But towards the end of the period JOG capitalizes on the power play as Corey Ng fires a backhand low slot that catches Chan going the other way to tie it at 2.
In the second, the only goal came when Yuen and Hugo Fan had a two-on-one. Although Chan made the initial and subsequent rebound, Fan finally put it in after a number of repeated attempts as he was left alone and finally puts it by. 3-2 JOG after 2 periods.
In the 3rd JOG got another power play goal when Anthony Luk goes end to end as he takes it deep into the right corner and cycles out across the crease and then waited for Chan to go down before roofing it past him to give JOG a 4-2 lead. Unicorns tried to pull closer by pulling the goalie with 3 minutes remaining, but Donald Chow intercepted a pass and fed Yuen for her second of the night into the empty net.
With the win JOG stays in the playoff race now tied with Unicorns in 5th with 9 points while VetiVa remains 3rd with 11 points and AsiaXpat in 4th, and the final playoff spot, with 10 points.
