VetiVa outguns China Hockey Group 7-4 in offensive showcase
VetiVa erupted for seven goals in a high-tempo matchup, defeating China Hockey Group 7-4 behind big nights from Theo Wong and Matt Ng. Wong opened the scoring just two minutes into the game with an unassisted marker after picking off an errant clearing and going top corner glove side from the low slot, and Ng extended the lead to 2-0 at 5:20 picking up a loose puck to the right of the net and chipping it past Sumi Chau. Wong struck again at 7:30, finishing another unassisted effort after intercepting a pass on the left boards at center ice and skating in alone and putting it thru the 5-hole to make it 3-0 before CHG answered late in the period when VetiVa’s defense
blew a tire while being last man back, and giving David Finifter a clean breakaway where he scored top corner glove side at 12:50.
The second period saw VetiVa reassert control. Robbie Lee scored at 2:00 with a one timer from a beautiful pass from the point by Mark Pavey to restore the three-goal cushion. Warren Ang cut the lead to 4-2 at 7:37 with a backhand shot that eluded Adrian Huen after CHG outmanned VetiVa’s defense behind the net and came out with the puck. But VetiVa responded with goals from Ng at 10:00 and 11:04, the first a one timer from the low slot when Wong fed a pass out from behind the goal line, followed by a laser from the right faceoff dot past Chau again top corner glove. Wong then completed his hat trick at 12:50 after a breakaway pass from Juerg Fritschi to make it 7-2 when he went across the crease and put it backhand by Chau.
CHG battled back in the third with two late goals-Stephen Levac scored at 11:46 after jamming a loose puck in at the side of the net, and Keith Hong scored shorthanded at 13:28 after collecting his own rebound and stuffing it in from behind the goal line-but the deficit proved too large.
