RBC Experience Too Much for AsiaXpat Youth
October 18th, 2024
Where’s Theo?
The 2nd game of this season was a rematch of last seasons' finals between RBC Lions and AsiaXpat. However, with 2 much revamped rosters.
Both teams had some key players missing for opening night, but this was still an
entertaining game with AsiaXpat sporting more speed on the ice, vs the more experienced (but slower) RBC team. It was also the return to the nets for goalie Grant Phillips after not playing in net for the last couple years.
The first period was evenly played with few chances at either end, the only goal being an unassisted marker by Jasper Tang to make it 1-0 for RBC.
AsiaXpat captain, Justin Wong, responded from a feed by another new player, Nathan Kellar to tie the game at 1. With a follow-up question of, has anyone seen Theo Wong (Xpat’s first pick) who was MIA. A few minutes later, RBC’s "century line" scored, with Bruce Hicks finishing a play from Gary Lawrence, and Shane Weir. RBC outshot Xpat 13 to 4 in the 2nd period, with Warren Ang also tallying with 30 seconds left to close out the 2nd 3-1 for RBC.
In the 3rd, Theo Wong finally made it to the rink with 9:30 left on the clock, and after a Superman outfit change, was able to get on the ice with around 5 minutes left in the game. However, too little too late as it was all RBC as Chow scored his 2nd of the game and rookie Ryan Lee capped off the game with an empty net goal with just under 2 minutes remaining. 5-1 the final for RBC Lions.
Martin Jim (AsiaXpat) faced 26 shots while Grant Phillips (RBC Lions) faced 15 shots.
Three Stars of the game:
1. Jasper Chow (RBC Lions)
2. Grant Phillips (RBC Lions)
3. Martin Jim (AsiaXpat)
