Surging Warriors vault past Tycoons for 3rd place

To the casual observer simply looking at the SCIHL standings, one would think that the Kowloon Warriors were in tough going into the game against the league-leading RBC Lions. However, the Warriors have picked up several key wins during 2024 and are gradually clawing their way out of the SCIHL basement, closing the gap on the third-place Hong Kong Tycoons. The Lions were also with their stars Robbie Schremp, Greg Smyth, and Nicholas Weberg just ahead of the Chinese New Year break.
Goaltenders Rudi Bernart for RBC and the Warrior's Antoine Devolz, the latter of whom was coming off injury reserve, only allowed a goal each as both faced well over 20 shots during the game's first two periods. The Lion's Jeff Griffin broke the ice though with a late first-period goal and Kevin O'Toole countered for the Warriors in the second frame.
With the game standing a one apiece going into the third period, Warriors LPP Whitney Olsen would find the back of the net just two minutes into the frame. The Lions would respond just a few minutes later though on a Brad Wilson goal to tie it up. Kowloon then took the lead again on a point shot by LPP defenseman Ken Yee that was redirected by Warriors star Jake McDonnell.
RBC however would tie it up once again with Brad Wilson's second goal of the evening. In a largely back-and-forth affair, the Warriors totally ran away with the game within the final minute and a half. Kowloon's U18 LPP Lleyton Lam would score the eventual game-winner along with Kevin O'Toole and Jake McDonnell each potting their second markers of the night to seal the deal for the Warriors in a 6-3 victory over the league leaders RBC Lions.
Kowloon's Jake McDonnell finished the game with two goals and two assists while Kevin O'Toole and LPP Whitney Olsen would walk away with three points each in the victory. On the other end, Brad Wilson and Jeff Griffin were the bright spots for RBC with each taking away two points in the defeat.
