Tycoons still looking for First win of 2024

February 2nd, 2024

With their stars Robbie Schremp and Greg Smyth back in the line up this week, the RBC Lions were looking to rebound from last week's loss to the surging Macau Aces. The Hong Kong Tycoons meanwhile were still looking for their first victory of the new year.

Within a turn of the head though, the RBC Lions were up by two in the first two minutes of the game, on goals by Greg Smyth and Nicholas Weberg. The Tycoons would eventually respond with a marker by Jeff Wall late into the first period. However the Lions would regain their two goal lead with Nicholas Weberg potting his second on the night with just 15 seconds left in the first frame.

The RBC Lions would carry their momentum into the second period, translating into another three goals, all the while shutting out their opponents in the second frame. Former London Knight Robbie Schremp would put two shots behind Tycoons goaltender Evan Thorpe during the process. Schremp even attempted another lacrosse-style goal during this span, rubbing it in on an outmatched Tycoons squad that was down 6-1 by the end of the second period.

As the third period rolled around, the Tycoons proved to still have a bit of life in them however with a goal by stay-at-home defenseman Ken Yee. Hong Kong would put another on the board with LPP Whitney Olsen sending it past Pardubice native Rudi Bernart, putting the game at 6-3 for the Lions. That was all she wrote for the Tycoons though as RBC would put away an additional four goals within the game's final three minutes.

The Lion's Nicholas Weberg is keeping up his torrid scoring pace with six points on the evening. Former NHLer Robbie Schremp would come away with five points of his own in the victory, along with U18 Cooper Fang picking up two goals and an assist. On the Tycoon's front, Leon Ruelle continues to be a bright spot for the squad, picking up assists on all three of his team's goals. Canadian Maritime native Jeff Wall would also have three points, finishing with a goal and two assists on the evening. The Hong Kong Tycoons now fall to third place behind the Macau Aces in their 10-3 loss to a strong RBC Lions squad.
