Raptors Clawed Back To Earn A Point
Fresh off a tie against the RBC Lions, the Sam Wai Raptors recorded their second
consecutive tie of the season against Sapporo. Brian Knowles scored the lone 3rd period goal for the Raptors to tie the game at 6.
It looked pretty bleak for the Raptors as Sapporo built up a 4-0 first-period lead with Blake Steele scoring a pair while Jeff Griffin and Rhett Wilcox add the others.
The Raptors woke up in the second with Steve Allison and Bryan Crane scoring just a few minutes apart. After Griffin had scored his second of the night, Allison and Crane once again scored consecutive goals. Steele then completed his hat trick to put Sapporo up 6-4 however, Dennis Toews got into the act and scored a big goal with 6 seconds remaining in the period.
You would figure more goals to come in the third but the goalies took over. Knowles was the only player to get one in the third period and the game ended in a 6-6 tie after a frantic overtime period.
Sapporo’s Sammy Wong and Raptors’ Kevin Rushton both stopped 23
shots.
This was the final game of the 2022-2023 regular season.
