The Light at the end of the Tunnel

November 8 2015 - Hong KongDoug Lightbound led the way for K-Pocha with a pair of goals and assists in a 7-2 thrashing over Sam Wai. Lightbound, returned this past week from the Bangkok tournament as a Champion with his team taking the Tier III title in the International division.Gene Cheh opened the scoring just 3:40 into the game as his blast beat Sam Wai goaltender Ray Loo. The play seemed to be offside prior to the goal but unfortunately, the coaches’ challenge from the Sam Wai bench fell on deaf ears. Sam Wai did manage to tie the game before the period ended after Leon Mo calmly skated in all alone against goaltender Warren McInnes and was able to beat the big fella on the stick side. The second period was a disaster for Sam Wai, which has been the case for the past few games. They were short again on the bench and only had three of their regular defencemen. K-Pocha picked apart the team and Loo by scoring three times to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Kaz Hayashi, Lightbound and Norm ‘give me an assist even though I did not touch the puck’ Chin all tallied for K-Pocha in the middle period. In the third period, Keith Fong finally scored his first of the season as his backhander beat McInnes who was sitting in the crease. That goal gave Sam Wai a minor hope of a comeback. But it was not meant to be as Sam Wai ran out of gas and K-Pocha took it to them by scoring more times to put out any minor fires. Steve Allison, Keith Hong and Lightbound with his second of the night, rounded out the scoring. Despite allowing 7 goals, Loo stopped 37 shots as it could have been worse than a 7-2 result. With the win, K-Pocha now sits on top of the SCIHL team standings. The 3 Stars of the Game1st Star: Doug Lightbound (K-Pocha), 2 goals 2 assists2nd Star: Gene Cheh (K-Pocha), 1 goal 4 assists3rd Star: Ray Loo (Sam Wai), 37 savesInterview with Doug Lightbound - https://youtu.be/1ID8AWdHhDk
