Aces double up on short-handed Warriors 8-4

March 1st, 2024

Heading into their game against the Macau Aces, the Kowloon Warriors were locked in 3rd place overall in the SCIHL standings by virtue of the Hong Kong Tycoon's defeat earlier in the evening. The Macau Aces on the other hand have been on fire in 2024, having been only defeated once in their last seven games, with their last loss at the hands of the Warriors.

Kowloon got the first jump as Kevin O'Toole would put one behind Aces' goaltender Craig Gouk just 34 seconds into the game. Less than a minute after, LPP Leon Ruelle would put the Warriors up by two. Undeterred by the early two-goal deficit, the Aces would respond as Macau captain Jesse Lussier found the back of the net on an individual effort. The Aces would then find the equalizer with Yosef Natour's sixth goal of the season.

Just a minute later, LPP Jerry Kim would get Macau's third goal to put the Aces up by one. The Warriors answered back though as LPP Connor Daly tied things up to put the game at three a piece. However, in the dying seconds of the first period, U18 Aces LPP and HK national junior team member Lleyton Lam put the puck past Kowloon goaltender Antoine Devolz with just a single second left in the frame.

Heading into the second period sitting at 4-3 in favor of the Aces, Macau would expand their lead with a snipe by team points leader Whitney Olsen. Unlike the explosion of goals we had in the first period, Olsen's goal would be the only marker in the second frame as the Warriors only managed seven shots while their goaltender Antoine Devolz made 13 saves during that span.

During the opening minutes of the third period, Warriors LPP Leon Ruelle was able to find the back of the net again, cutting the Aces lead back to one. That was the last goal Kowloon could muster though as Macau would firmly hold onto the driver's seat from then on. Jesse Lussier would go on to score his second and third goals of the evening to round out his hat trick. Whitney Olsen would then put another goal away to secure the victory. When all said and done, the Macau Aces were able to come up with a convincing victory of 8-4 over the Kowloon Warriors.

Yosef Natour had a great game for the Aces, walking away with four points. Teammate Jesse Lussier one-upped Natour though as the Ottawa, Ontario native finished with a five-point night. However, it was Whitney Olsen who would best them all, finishing with an incredible six-point effort. Olsen continues his offensive tear this season and is second in SCIHL scoring with 44 points, behind ex-NHLer Robbie Schremp. On the Warriors' front, Kevin O'Toole who has consistently produced for his team, came away with three points in the defeat.

As well, Kowloon goaltender Antoine Devolz had a respectable night, making 29 saves. Sadly for Devolz, this would prove to be his final game in net for the Warriors. The Swiss goalie announced after the match that due to his nagging knee injury, he will not be able to continue tending the Warrior goal and will play the rest of the SCIHL season as a skater. We wish Antoine a speedy recovery!
