GAME 1
Manulife blank JOG Sports with a dominant 5-0 win
Manulife came out strong Thursday night, shutting out JOG Sports 5-0 in a game that showcased their depth and defensive discipline. From the opening puck drop, Manulife controlled possession and neutralized JOG's transition game, while Grant Phillips delivered a flawless performance in net.
The scoring started midway through the first period when Reto Broennimann fired home an unassisted goal at 4:46 after a turnover in the neutral zone. Despite a slashing penalty to Jhonny Leung later in the period, Manulife's penalty kill held firm, and they carried a 1-0 lead into the second.
The second period was all Manulife. At 3:30, Henry Tong (LPP) doubled the lead, finishing a crisp passing play from Gary Lawrence and Leroy Hung. Just two minutes later, Jason Yip made it 3-0 with a quick shot off a setup from Jackie Chan and Paul Chai (LPP). JOG struggled to generate offense, and their best chance - a rebound scramble in front - was smothered by Phillips.
Early in the third, Tong struck again just 30 seconds in, assisted by Yip and Chai, before Jhonny Leung capped the scoring at 6:08 with help from Hung and Lawrence.
In goal, Grant Phillips was perfect, stopping all 16 shots for a shutout. On the other end, Martin Jim faced heavy pressure, making 15 saves on 20 shots.

GAME 2
VetiVa overpower RBC Lions in an 8-4 shootout
VetiVa showcased their offensive firepower in a high-scoring affair, defeating RBC Lions 8-4 in a game filled with breakaways, special teams action, and highlight-reel goals.
RBC struck first at 9:00 of the opening period when Vincent Ahrens scored off a feed from Kevin Wong and Corey Ng. VetiVa answered quickly as Arthur Tam tied the game with a wrist shot off the right post at 11:00, assisted by Matt Ng and Theophilus Wong.
The second period belonged to VetiVa. RBC briefly regained the lead at 2:10 through Antoine Devolz, and a perfectly placed shot, assisted by Leroy Hung, but VetiVa responded with four straight goals. Theophilus Wong tied it at 4:20, followed by Josh Steinhaus at 8:10. Tam added his second at 13:48, and Wong struck again with a breakaway goal thru the 5-hole at 14:42 to make it 5-2 heading into the third.
The third period saw VetiVa continue their dominance. Matt Ng scored twice, both top shelf snipes, in quick succession at 7:00 and 8:00, the first assisted by Tam and the second unassisted, pushing the lead to 7-2. RBC showed some fight as Bernard Law scored at 8:20, tapping home a rebound into the open net, assisted by Ahrens and Ng, and Devolz added his second at 10:35. Devolz had another breakaway chance, but rung it off the crossbar. VetiVa sealed the win when Wong completed his hat trick at 12:00.
In goal, Adrian Huen (VetiVa) stopped 20 of 24 shots, while Arthur Chan (RBC) faced 28 shots, making 20 saves.

GAME 3
AsiaXPAT edge China Hockey Group in a 4-3 thriller
AsiaXPAT and China Hockey Group delivered one of the most exciting games of the night, with momentum swings and clutch goals keeping fans on edge until the final buzzer. AsiaXPAT ultimately prevailed 4-3, thanks to a strong second period and a late game-winner.
AsiaXPAT opened the scoring at 4:30 of the first period when Justin Wong cut down the left boards, beat the defense to cut across the crease and roof one off the top corner to open the scoring. CHG responded on the powerplay at 9:50 as Hans Sham converted a setup from Henry Tong and David Finifter to tie the game. Just two minutes later, Arthur Tam (LPP) gave CHG the lead at 11:30 as he slid home the rebound, assisted by Reston Ko and Justin Kuok.
AsiaXPAT faced penalty trouble in the first, with minors to Rick Chu and Alvin Sham, but kept the deficit at one.
The second period was all AsiaXPAT. Alvin Sham tied the game as he powered down the left wing and unleashed a slapshot from the faceoff dot into the far side top corner while on the powerplay at 5:02. Shortly after, David Lee in his first game this season, scored a similar goal to Sham’s only from the right side at 7:24 to make it 3-2. CHG fought back late in the frame as Henry Tong cruised in from the point and buried a shot top corner from the right boards at 11:42, tying the game at 3.
The decisive moment came at 12:50 when Rick Chu scored for AsiaXPAT, finishing a play from David Lee, as he cut past the defense from the right boards, cut across the crease waiting for Chau to go down before roofing a backhand to the top shelf where mom keeps the cookies, giving his team the 4-3 lead. CHG pressed hard in the third but couldn’t find the equalizer, despite AsiaXPAT taking two penalties in the final frame.
In net, Martin Jim (AsiaXPAT) stopped 13 of 16 shots, while Sumi Chau (CHG) faced 19 shots, making 15 saves.
