RBC Lions hang on to remain undefeated

Both Young Guns and RBC Lions came into this game with an undefeated record, so this game was for the top of the early standings.

RBC’s Ryan Lee opened the scoring 2 minutes in, scoring top corner glove side after his shot took a deflection off the defenders stick. Less than a minute after, Leon Mo walked thru the defense and scored his 2nd of the season to give RBC a 2-0 lead. It wasn’t till late in the first did Young Guns respond with Yaann Yuen setting up Calix Ma for his 4th of the year as Ma scored after going right to left and pulling Grant Phillips out of position before firing it past on the short side.

The 2nd was tightly played by both teams, and it wasn’t until midway in the 3rd period when Warren Ang gave RBC the insurance 3-1 goal. Young Guns pressed the rest of the game but couldn’t solve Phillips until the last second as Danny Chiu rounded out the scoring, but it was too little too late as RBC beat Young Guns 3-2.

Grant Phillips (RBC Lions) faced 19 shots while Cameron Chiu (Young Guns) faced 15 shots.

Three Stars of the game:
1. Grant Phillips (RBC Lions)
2. Leon Mo (RBC Lions)
3. Yaann Yuen (Young Guns)

Xpat's record their first win

Unicorns entered the game as the top scoring team with Alvin Sham leading the scoring with 5 goals and AsiaXpat’s Theo Wong a close 2nd with 4 goals of his own, so this was going to be an interesting game with the 2 top scoring threats.

It was Sham who tallied first 4 minutes in giving Unicorns the lead, until Justin Wong finished off a scrappy play from David Finifter to tie the game at 1. 5 minutes later, Theo Wong scored his first of the game as he shot from the high slot just against the grain just over the outstretched pad of Chan on the stick side. He followed this up a few minutes later with a short-handed goal to give Xpat a 3-1 lead to close the First period.

Xpat added to their lead in the 2nd, Wong this time shooting from the top left circle and beating Chan with a perfectly placed shot into the top corner glove side, followed by David Finifter before Tracy Wong pulled one back for Unicorns with a short-handed goal. 5-2 Xpat after 2.

Andrew Rueger opened the 3rd with a powerplay goal to make it a game again, but just a few minutes later, Wong scored his 4th and 5th of the night to pull away for good this time. 7-3 final for AsiaXpat's first win this season.

Martin Jim (AsiaXpat) faced 18 shots while Arthur Chan (Unicorns) faced 21 shots.

Three Stars of the game:
1. Theo Wong (AsiaXpat)
2. Justin Wong (AsiaXpat)
3. Tracy Wong (Unicorns)

OT hero Rob Chiu secures VetiVa’s first win

Both VetiVa and JOG have struggled to find goals early this season, so this looked to be a low scoring affair.

Although both teams have struggled to put the puck in the net, it wasn’t due to lack of opportunities. Both teams came up with wonderful scoring chances only to be thwarted by excellent goaltending or a body part coming in the way. Both Stephanie Fok and Nicholas Sellars were tested but held the fort closed.

As the game got heated, there were several penalties, but neither team could capitalize on the man advantage. Late in the 3rd, JOG thought they got the go-ahead goal only for it to be called back due to goaltender interference before the goal.

As overtime was winding down, Rob Chiu rips a slapshot short side top corner from the left faceoff dot with 16 seconds left in OT to give VetiVa some relief and their first win of the season.

Nicholas Sellars (VetiVa) faced 13 shots to earn his first win and shutout in the SCIHL, while Stephanie Fok (JOG) faced 18 shots.

Three Stars of the game:
1. Robert Chiu (VetiVa)
2. Nickolas Sellars (VetiVa)
3. Stephanie Fok (JOG Sportswear)
