Sam Wai Remains Perfect

The Sam Wai Raptors turned in another dominant performance by defeating Sapporo 6-2 to remain perfect with a 4-0 record. The Raptors were firing on all cylinders jumping out to a commanding 4-0 lead before the game was 9 minutes old. Led by Keith Hong and Francois Esterhuizen, the dynamic duo was in on all the goals. Before the first period ended, Sapporo got one back with Justin Kuok capitalizing on a turnover at the Raptors’ blueline.

Just when you thought that Sapporo gained some momentum with the late first period goal, never fear as Francois is here! Francois buried a nice individual effort while shorthanded to regain a 4-goal lead. Sapporo’s Terence Chim scored on a powerplay, late in the period but the game was pretty much in control by the Raptors. Raptor’s goalie Grant Phillips was once again rock solid, as Sapporo felt like they were shooting against a brick wall.

Art Tam sealed the deal in the third when he picked up a pass and fired a shot, low along the ice on the glove side of goaltender Loron Orris.

Orris finished the night with 21 saves while Phillips stopped 27.

The Three Stars:
1. Keith Fong (Sam Wai)
2. Francois Esterhuizen (Sam Wai)
3. Grant Phillips (Sam Wai)

Brian 'Bobby' Hull picked a great time to get his first goal of the season as his late tally gave Bravo a 5-4 win. Josh Steinhaus had tied the game at 4 with a 'McDavid' like move as he cut through the defence and tucked the puck in past goaltender Grant Phillips, who was a last-minute sub for Scott Yang.

Shane Weir had given AsiaXpat a 2-1 lead heading into the third when he batted in a rebound past Phillips. The game went back and forth with most of the goals coming in the final period. It looked like overtime was certain until Hull skated down the right wing and ripped a shot past goaltender Kevin Rushton for the game winner. Bravo got a boost when Jason Klotz suited up for his first game of the season. Klotz scored twice and added one helper. Unfortunately for AsiaXpat, Justin Wong missed the game due to an undisclosed injury.

Rushton stopped 22 while Phillips stopped 30.

The Three Stars:
1. Jason Klotz (Bravo)
2. Shane Weir (AsiaXpat)
3. Brian Hull (Bravo)
