Division 2 - Game Summaries

November 8th, 2021

First Win
Sapporo finally picked up their first win of the season as they trounced Bravo 9-2. Bravo did get off to a quick start just 38 seconds in when Dough Lightbound pounced on a loose puck and fired in a shot past a startled Loron Orris, in goal for Sapporo. But it was pretty much all Sapporo the remainder of the game. They scored 4 unanswered goals in the period, led by Justin Kuok’s pair.

In the second period, Paul Chai and Alton Ho scored to put Sapporo up by 5. Bravo goaltender Scott Yang had asked prior to this game on how his team had lost 8-1 since he was not at the game. By the end of the second period, he knew the answer. Give credit to Sapporo who is finally showing everyone, why on paper, they are one of the favourites to reach the SCIHL Final. Still, there is lots of hockey to be played but it is a step in the right direction.

In the third, after Barry Allison got one back for Bravo, Sapporo scored 3 more times to round out the scoring. Yang stopped 21 while Orris stopped 17.

The Three Stars:
1. Justin Kuok (Sapporo)
2. Paul Chai (Sapporo)
3. Alton Ho (Sapporo)

Raptors Continue to Roll
Francois Esterhuizen’s 4 points were too much for AsiaXpat to handle as the Sam Wai Raptors remained perfect with a 5-2 win. Sam Wai built up a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Esterhuizen, Sean Tyrrell and Art Tam.

AsiaXpat fought back in the second with a pair of goals. Justin Wong skated down the right wing and blasted a shot though goaltender Grant Phillips. Later in the period, Jimmy Thai deflected a nice pass past Phillips and suddenly, it was a 1 goal game.

However, Sam Wai never panicked and got their game together in the third. Esterhuizen's powerplay goal early in the period put Sam Wai back up by 2. Then Chad Fairfoull added some insurance a few minutes later with his 5th goal of the season which leads the league. The score would probably be more lopsided but AsiaXpat goaltender Kevin Rushton kept his team in it. At the other end, Phillips was rock solid and frustrated the AsiaXpat players.

Rushton stopped 20 while Philips stopped 18.

The Three Stars:
1. Francois Esterhuizen (Sam Wai)
2. Grant Phillips (Sam Wai)
3. Chad Fairfoull (Sam Wai)
