Sapporo Needed OT To Win A Wild One

Talk about a roller coaster ride in this game between Sapporo and the RBC Lions. Sapporo jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and were looking to cruise to their first victory over the Lions. The Lions had defeated Sapporo twice earlier with a combined score of 24-7. It looked like the Lions might come back in this one and they did at one point.

They scored 4 times in the second period including a late goal by Cole Poliziani to close within 1. Blake Steele, who had 5 points in this game scored the lone second period goal for Sapporo as they hung onto their slim lead.

In the third period, the Lions scored twice with goals from Julian Ikeda and Chloe Fong. The come back was complete but Jeff Griffin scored with 22 seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime.

In OT, former Lions player Rhett Wilcox beat Kevin Rushton, who subbed in for the injured Evan Thorpe.

Rushton stopped 38 while Sammy Wong stopped 16 for Sapporo. The win for
Sapporo capped off a wild game between these 2 teams.
